Korea's Sole Continuous Track Maker Devised in the mid-to-late 1800's, continuous track was originally designed to prevent steam tractors or carriage wheels from getting bogged down. Also called tank tread or caterpillar track, it rolls wheels on the track it lays down. In Korea, HYUNDAI STEEL is the only company that manufactures continuous track from materials and parts to finished product. Having developed continuous track for excavator through technology partnership with Komatsu of Japan, HYUNDAI STEEL supplies products to major domestic and foreign construction machinery manufacturers. HYUNDAI STEEL's Pohang Works is capable of mass-producing up to 90-ton class as well as 20 to 40-ton class taking up most of the demand and possesses a continuous track production capacity of 300,000 tons a year.
