Manufacturing High-Quality Hot Rolled Steel Sheets with Latest Technology Hot rolled steel refers to steel sheets that have been thinned up to 6 mm by heating, pressing, and extending semi-finished steel slabs made by processing molten metal from blast furnaces. HYUNDAI STEEL possesses a production capacity of 8.5 million tons a year to manufacture high quality hot rolled steel plates through its integrated production system with latest equipment. Hot rolled products are widely used in different industries including automotive, structures and steel pipes for construction.

Product Classification/Uses

  • Automobile
    Steel sheets that are used for automotive bodies are high in strength and resistant to fatigue, which can increase overall safety and lifespan of cars. The product is highly processable that it can be easily shaped to a car design which is increasingly diversified and also has the properties appropriate for lightweight automotive bodies. It is mostly used for car frames, wheels and exteriors.

  • Structures
    Mechanical properties are crucial as the product is applied to structural frames. Therefore, it possesses proper yield strength, tensile strength, elongation minimum, flexibility, and impact toughness required for different uses. The product can be classified into two types either for general structure or for welded structure and mainly used for various structures such as bridges, ships and vehicles.

  • Pipes
    The products possess excellent weldability and moldability by adjusting chemical composition and rolling temperature during steelmaking and hot rolling processes to achieve optimum mechanical properties and welding performance. They are classified into general uses, machine structure, heat exchanger, earthquake proofing, line pipe/tubing & casing and are mostly used for regular steel pipes, conduit tubes, and boilers.

  • High Pressure Gas Cylinder
    The product has enabled excellent processability and minimized mechanical property deviation by length by managing the temperature by each process in hot rolling. It especially maintains outstanding cleanliness through impurity management as this is directly connected to safety. It is mostly used for pressure vessels or gas tanks.

  • High Carbon / Low Alloy Steel
    The product possesses high strength, high hardness, and wear resistance by adding mass quantity of carbon and alloy elements, as it requires tolerance on repeated operation and friction. It is mostly used for special purposes such as automotive parts, chains, knife blades, and tools.
