- 관련 공법에 대한 특허 침해 리스크 해소로 활발한 마케팅 활동 기대

현대제철이 국내 최초로 알루미늄 핫스탬핑 공정 및 제품에 대한 사용협약을 체결했다.

현대제철은 7월 17일, 핫스탬핑 공정 및 제품에 대한 특허권을 보유한 아르셀로미탈과 핫스탬핑 공정특허 사용에 관한 라이선스 계약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이로써 현대제철은 핫스탬핑 공법에 대해 한국, 중국 및 아세안(ASEAN: 동남아시아국가연합)국가에서 특허 침해의 제약 없이 한층 활발한 제조 및 영업활동이 가능해졌으며, 나아가 관련 소재와 부품에 대한 영업활동도 탄력을 받을 것으로 전망된다.

현대제철은 이번 협약 체결을 계기로 자동차용 핫스탬핑 사업을 해외로 확대해 나갈 계획이며, 나아가 자동차부품 사업 측면에서 핫스탬핑 소재에 대해 적극적인 마케팅을 펼친다는 방침이다.

현대제철은 현재 충남 예산공장에 22기, 울산공장에 2기의 핫스탬핑 라인을 보유하고 이 공법을 적용한 자동차 부품을 생산하는 등 핫스탬핑 분야에서 국내 최대 사업장을 구축하고 있다.

이 밖에도 체코법인에 핫스탬핑 설비 2기를 올해 안에 신설할 예정이며, 향후 추가 증설도 계획하고 있어 이번 협상 체결이 현대제철의 글로벌 시장에 대한 핫스탬핑 판매의 초석이 될 전망이다.

현대제철은 이번 협상 체결을 통해 핫스탬핑 제품 판매 및 관련 부품 사업의 성장뿐 아니라, 고부가 자동차부품 시장의 확대를 통한 고객사와의 동반성장 효과도 기대하고 있다고 전했다.

Hyundai Steel, the First and Sole Company Granted License to Use Hot Stamping Process in Korea

- Looking forward to the company's active marketing without fear of infringing the relevant process patent

Hyundai Steel, first in Korea, has entered into a licensing agreement involving its aluminized boron press hardenable steel product and process.

Hyundai Steel announced on July 17^th, 2020 that it has signed a licensing agreement with ArcelorMittal, who has patents on hot stamping product and process.

With the patent license agreement in place, Hyundai Steel is now able to accelerate the manufacturing and sales of hot stamping steels in Korea, China and ASEAN countries, free of the risk of patent infringement; furthermore, sales activities on related materials and parts are also expected to gain momentum.

By signing this agreement, Hyundai Steel plans to expand its hot stamping automotive part business overseas and will appeal the merit of the hot stamping materials to the market in automotive parts business.

Hyundai Steel currently runs one of the largest hot stamping sites in Korea, such as 22 lines in Yesan, Choongnam and 2 lines in Ulsan, producing automotive parts with the hot stamping process.

In addition to 2 hot stamping lines to be placed in the Czech subsidiary by the end of this year, Hyundai Steel is planning on further expansion. In this regard, this patent license agreement will mark as a cornerstone on Hyundai Steel's hot stamping business towards the global market.

Through execution of this licensing agreement, Hyundai Steel anticipates not only to significantly develop its sales of press hardenable steel materials and parts, but also to expand the high value auto parts market allowing win-win opportunities for its customers.
